October 25, 2023 7:00 pm Solina Community Centre Members Present- Jenny Bowman, Karen Dair, Herb Tink, Bev Whitbread Sami Elhajjeh Regrets -Granville Anderson Welcome Minutes of the May 24 meeting - Jenny Bowman Motion to approve - Herb Tink Seconder - Sami Elhajjeh. Carried Treasurer's Report - Herb Tink Motion to Accept Report - Bev Whitbread Seconder - Karen Dair Carried Comments from the Councillors - Councillor Elhajjeh commented on the proposal by Power Plus to install a Battery Energy Storage System on 12- 14 acres at Regional Rd 3 and Langmaid Rd. There were concerns voiced by Greenbelt Waterkeepers . At this point there is no proposal but something to watch locally. He also mentioned that he has had complaints from folks who use the tennis courts at the Solina Park. He will bring the issue forward at budget time to see if they can move the date to improve the courts up to from the 2026 time frame. There was a discussion about making it dual purpose tennis/pickle ball. Herb also voiced his concern about the "pebbles " used in the play ground. Currently wood chips are being used in place of this cover. Old Business - Website - Karen and or Bev - to be discussed at the next meeting Dine and Learn - 10 people 1 donation - Italian Theme well received - 10 people - $850 plus one donation of $75. All ingredients donated by the Board. Fire Doors - Folks still blocking doors open - Bev created a sign - now on door to remind renters of fire regulation - noted in rental agreement also Councillor Elhajeeh will look into what other methods are being used to " convince" renters that it is a fire regulation that must be adhered to. Suggestions - 1. keep part of the deposit. 2. Put into contract what the actual fine is for not adhering to this regulation. Natural Weed Killer - Karen - worked well but too expensive to use at the Park. It does not affect the roots so doesn't last long. Floors - Karen and Jenny met with the gentleman from Higgins Hardwood Flooring Peterborough. Karen presented the quote to do the stage, main floor and the front stairs. See details of quote attached. The total cost would be $8825.30. It would take a week and it is better to have a week before it is used by the public. Motion to sand main floor, stage and front stairs made by Herb Tink and Seconded by Ron Whitbread. Carried Possibly done thew first two weeks of January 2024. Shawn Hinchey - approached us to modernize the hall - floors light fixtures, cathedral ceiling all in dark wood. He would raise funds but they basically wanted control of the finished product. We met with him and listened to his proposal and also mentioned what we really needed was a bar on the upper floor. Suggestions from all in attendance - Herb, Karen Jenny and Bev that we could use part of the stage. Shawn was to discuss the possibilities of this project. We have not had any word from him or his design team about this project. Water - Continues to be an issue but the Town is always there to get us up and running and provide the water if there is an issue. They have been in touch with the company providing the water softener but haven't been able to solve the problem so far. A work in progress. New Business - Air Conditioning - The fan on the blower of the outside unit malfunctioned and has to be replaced. They are working on getting the motor replaced. Food Handling - Taken September 23, 2023 Solina community Centre — Karen Dair, Herb Tink, Bev Whitbread and Jenny Bowman Completed the course and are Certificate valid until 2028. Karen, Bev and Jenny provided a snack break for the attendees. The Hall was donated to the event. AED Training - Karen & Don Dair and Eric and Jenny Bowman completed the course at the Garnet Rickard Centre in Bowmanville in August Benches/picnic tables/blue benches - Don and Eric will take in the benches west of the Hall shortly. Picnic Tables and Blue Benches - Herb, Chris and Brandon will take care of storage of these items. The right rear element of the white stove quit so a new element was purchased along with new drip pans. The right rear element is still not working. Items from the floor- hearing no further items for discussion Jenny asked to an adjournment. Councillor Elhajjeh made the motion. Adjourned 8:00 pm.
