HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-05-24Minutes for Solina Community Centre Board Meeting May 24, 2023. 7:00 PM Jenny welcomed everyone to the meeting. We had an introduction of the new Councillors and Board Members. We looked forward to working with Granville Anderson and Sami Elhajjeh Members present - BJ Baker, Chris MacKenzie, Ron & Bev Whitbread, Karen Dair, Herb Tink, Granville Anderson, Sami Elhajjeh and Jenny Bowman Jenny read the minutes of the November 9, 2022 meeting. Hearing no errors or omissions Jenny asked for a motion to accept the minutes as read. Herb made the motion and Bev Whitbread seconded. Carried Herb gave the treasurers report - see attached copy. Motion to accept the treasurer's report made by BJ Baker seconded by Chris Mackenzie. Carried The old business from the minutes was regarding a website. It was decided the a Karen would look into Go Daddy and Bev would contact the person she had been in touch with earlier. They will report at the next meeting. The Victorian Tea was a success. Several comments on the food, decor and it was definitely a day for attendees to enjoy the company of their friends and meet new folks. We raised $2100.00 for Durham Region Hospice Clarington site. We have decided to fundraise with another Dine and Learn. The date is September 29, 2023 with an Italian theme. Time to be decided. Fire doors - We had trouble with fire doors being propped open so all available door stops have bee removed from the Hall and renters are notified of the need to follow fire door regulations. We have a new enthusiastic volunteer - Jeff Maile would like to become part of the Hall/Park. He has some fundraising ideas and we look forward to working with him. His contact info has been forwarded to BJ Baker. New Business Karen and Don were inquiring about the Park using an environmentally safe weed killer for around the playground/tennis court and more. They are going to try the "recipe" that they have found and report to the park board for use in the park. Refinishing floors. The upper hall floors are in desperate need of refinishing. Jenny had a company that is used by The Town for the basket ball courts and Sami had the name of a local company that does floors too. Jenny will contact Olaf Robe and DF Hardware Floors for quotes. We will do the stage, front stairs and main upper floor. The piano on the stage is not used anymore so decision to remove it . Brandon will have it posted for free on websites or we will remove it ourselves for disposal. After receiving info/quotes on websites and floors we will have a meeting to decide on the next step. Brandon and Herb commented on the continuous graffiti on the buildings. The park building has to be painted to remove the graffiti and Herb washes the areas of graffiti at the Hall. There was a suggestion to install cameras but they would have to be hardwired as there is no internet service at the Hall/Park. Suggestion to put " decoy" cameras up. Granville said he would look into cameras for the Park and Hall. Brandon and Chris are working on the basketball net. Suggestion to remove it from the tennis court and place outside the playground. A pad would have to be made and some question if space was big enough. For further discussion. Chris MacKenzie had an inquiry from Shawn Hinchey - Remax to helping with fund raising for major projects at the Hall. Jenny will connect with him to see how we would mutually agree to proceed.
