2. Welcome and Introductions
Introductions completed between Pinder and the members of the committee.
3. Review of Agenda
Approval of the Nov 22nd meeting minutes and Dec 6th agenda– First - Carlene,
Seconded by Rochelle;, carried
No declaration of interest by any committee members.
4. Black History Month Celebrations
Pinder provided an overview of the plans that were discussed at the Nov 22nd
meeting, specifically the All Black Vendor Market on Feb 24 at Garnett B. Rickards.
This is an event that will be hosted in partnership with Region of Durham and
Clarington Library & Museum.
Sam from the Library and Museums was not able to attend the meeting but did share
via email with Pinder that the Library would be interested in hosting a movie night. no
Questions asked about the cost to vendors. Pinder explained that the cost would be
free of charge to the vendors.
Pinder asked committee members who would be interested in joining the planning
committee - Carlene, Pranay, Angela and Aaliyah interested in joining the committee.
Pinder will connect with Clarington staff, Sam from the library and Region staff to set
up a planning meeting.
Committee members asked when a marketing plan will be implemented. Pinder
advised them that someone from the municipality and library communication team
will join some of the initial planning meetings.
The interested committee members indicated that Wednesday’s at 8 pm appear to be
the best days/times for all of them.
5. 2024 Work Plan
Pinder asked the committee members if there were any specific action items they
were working on for 2023 that they wanted to discuss further and if there were any
items/projects they wanted to highlight for 2024.
Rochelle indicated that in the past, they were using an Action Log that was used to
capture the work to date that was being completed by the committee. Pinder advised
committee members that we can continue to move forward that way.
2024 action items identified:
Committee members indicated they are interested in providing further feedback on
the DEI web landing page on the Clarington website. Pinder stated she is currently
looking to update a few items on the website and populate the 2SLGBTQIA+ page.
Pinder will work with Communication figure out the best way to share the content of
the webpages with them so that members can provide additional feedback.
IDEA social media content – committee members are interested in seeing
Clarington’s social media and digital strategy and exploring how they could be more
interactive with Communications on how IDEA content is shared.
Pinder explained that Clarington now has a corporate strategy which will likely help
support the various municipal departments to create their 2024 strategies. Once
Communication has created their strategy, Pinder will share anything related to
IDEA communication with the committee members.
6. Other Business
Meeting dates/times – all members are okay with the current day/time but are
interested in meeting in person/hybrid in the future. One option discussed was doing
one meeting a quarter in person/hybrid starting in the spring of 2024.
January meeting - Group in agreement to changing the January meeting from
January 3rd to 10th.
