1. Land Acknowledgement
Rochelle shared Clarington's Land Acknowledgement Statement.
2. Review of Agenda - Declarations of Interest
Members were asked if they would like to declare any items of interest. No concerns
were shared.
3. Review Previous Meeting
Members reviewed the minutes of the November 2, 2022, meeting.
4. African Ancestral Acknowledgment
Rochelle shared that City of Toronto has adopted an African Ancestral
Acknowledgment. She shared it with the members and discussed the impact and
meaning it provides.
Rochelle will share the City of Toronto guidelines with Erica who will connect with
partners at the Region of Durham to see if something is already in place in this area.
Update: The Region of Durham is including in a regional meeting on January 13 that
will be attended by Erica, who can then bring back more information to this group.
5. Black History Month Planning Update
Angela and Erica provided an update on the planning of a celebration event being
held Saturday, January 28, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Bowmanville
Public Library. There will be music, entertainment, authors, artists and food,
showcasing Black vendors and talent local to Clarington / Durham Region.
A "save the date" email will be shared with Members and they are encouraged to
attend and share promotional material with their networks.
6. Website Design
Erica shared an overview of a draft of possible webpage structure for the Anti -Racism
page on www.clarington.net.
Members will have the opportunity to share feedback along the way as it is developed.
It is anticipated that a mock website will be available to view at the February or March
meeting.
7. Other Business
January Meeting will be held January 11, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. Hybrid — Members can
attend in person at 40 Temperance Street, Room 1A, or via Teams Link.
Meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
