Land Acknowledgement Meera shared Clarington's Land Acknowledgement Statement. 2. Review of Agenda - Declarations of Interest Members were asked if they would like to declare any items of interest. No concerns were shared. 3. Presentation —.Body-Worn Camera Initiative Constable Julie Liard and Sergeant Stephanie Dickson presented to the group about the Durham Regional Police Services (DRPS) Body -Worn Camera project that is launching across the region. The use of body -worn cameras was raised initially in 2014, followed by the launch of a pilot project in 2018. Data from the pilot project was analyzed throughout 2019 and once funding was received in 2020, this project was rolled out for 2021. Currently launched in Ajax -Pickering and North Durham; to be in Clarington early in 2022. Across Durham Region by Fall 2022. Anyone who interacts with DRPS in situations where the body -worn cameras will be used will be provided with a verbal warning to advise them. As well, the cameras will have a flashing light to indicate they are in use. All footage will be stored and treated confidentially, including any footage where minors may be captured. Redacted information captured in the videos can be accessed by residents through a freedom of information request. Footage is reviewed regularly by supervisors to ensure proper adherence to the policies surrounding the use of the body -worn cameras. If members have any additional questions about the project, they can reach out by email to bwc .drps.ca. Meera thanked Julie and Stephanie for their presentation. 4. Review of Previous Meeting Notes The notes of the meeting of September 15, 2021 were reviewed. 5. Other Business Meera thanked everyone for providing input to the Anti -Racism Strategy. This will now be moving forward to the Diversity Advisory Committee. Members discussed timing for a Black History Month event and felt that "Black Before" or "Black After" Black History Month would be best so as not to get lost in the various events.
