1. Land Acknowledgement
Rochelle shared Clarington's Land Acknowledgement Statement.
2. Review of Previous Meeting Notes
The notes of the meeting of June 9, 2021 were reviewed. Erica provided an update
that the group's suggestions were provided to Councillor Anderson who followed up
with the resident who had shared the situation of racism with him. They appreciated
the support and indicated it had been reported to the Durham Regional Police.
3. Review of Agenda - Declarations of Interest
No updates were received to the agenda. Members were asked if they would like to
declare any items of interest. No concerns were shared.
4. Anti -Racism Strategy Update
Members were asked to review the updated copy of the Anti -Racism Strategy which will
be circulated with the minutes. To be clarified — specify key members and elders on
slide 12.
Members share comments with Meera and Rochelle by August 20, 2021.
5. Human Trafficking — Durham Regional Police Services (DRPS)
Meera shared a document provided by Durham Regional Police Services: Durham
Region's Human Trafficking Model as well as the Human Trafficking Coalition has a
website with resources and awareness at: www.stoDht.com.
A representative from the human trafficking unit at DRPS will be invited to attend an
upcoming meeting. Review the website and the document that is circulated with the
minutes to think of questions and topics of conversation for this presentation.
6. Other Business
Meera reminded members that the Region of Durham's Anti -Racism Task Force is
recruiting members. Applications must be submitted by July 30, 2021.
The Subcommittee meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m.
However, for September, the meeting will be held on September 15 at 6:00 p.m. as the
second Wednesday conflicts with the first week back to school.
Next meeting: Wednesday, September 15, 6:00 p.m.
