She congratulated them on their successful efforts in raising an amount of
$12,161.90 and thanked them on behalf of Council and the Municipality.
Resolution #GPA-698-94
Moved by Councillor Novak, seconded by Councillor Dreslinski
THAT a letter be sent to the members of the United Way Campaign Team on
behalf of Mayor Hamre and Members of Council expressing sincere thanks for
their successful efforts in raising funds for the United Way and they be advised
that the municipality is proud of their efforts.

Councillor Dreslinski made a declaration of interest with respect to the delegation
of Pam Hodgson; vacated her chair and refrained from discussion and voting on
the subject matter. Councillor Dreslinski's property abuts Mrs. Hodgson's
property.
(a) Pam Hodgson, 48 Davids Crescent, Orono, LOB 1 MO - advised that the
trees located on municipal property, adjacent to her property, are very
dangerous and she is concerned for the safety of children playing in this
area. A tree fell and damaged her wooden fence and chainlink fence.
She advised the municipality on June 27, 1994 and subsequently, her
insurance company paid a total of $1,600 to repair the fences. She
requested that the municipality reimburse her $200 insurance deductible.
(b) Lloyd Stephenson, 106 King Street East, Newcastle, L lB lH5 - requested
that the snow removal by-law be repealed and that the Public Works
Department plough the sidewalks in the municipality. He suggested that
an appeal should be made to the residents to keep their sidewalks free
from snow and ice.
Councillor Dreslinski chaired this portion of the meeting.

THAT Application A94/051 be appealed, and the appeal be withdrawn at such
time as the applicant provides the Director of Public Works with an acceptable
grading plan and a letter of undertaking that no further minor variance
applications will be applied for to reduce the rear yard setback for other lots in
the same subdivision; and
THAT Staff be authorized to appear before the Ontario Municipal Board to defend
the decisions of the Committee of Adjustment in the event of an appeal for
Applications A94/52 and A94/053.

inclusive on Plan 40M-1796 be approved;
THAT the By-law attached to Report PD-138-94 be approved and forwarded to
the Regional Municipality of Durham pursuant to Section 50 (7) of the Planning
Act; and
THAT the interested parties listed in Report PD-138-94 and any delegations be
advised of Council's decision.

Equity Process

Resolution #GPA-703-94
Moved by Councillor O'Toole, seconded by Councillor Scott
THAT Report TR-1 00-94 be received;
THAT the process outlined in Report TR-l00-94 to comply with the Employment
Equity legislation, Bill 79, be endorsed;
THAT a copy of Report TR-100-94 be provided to the Executive Director of the
C1arington Library, Ms. B. Baker, with an invitation to participate in the
Municipality's Employment Equity Process;
THAT the President of C.U.P.E. Local #74, Mr. Steve Harding and the President of
the Fire Fighters' Association Local #3139, Mr. Ron Klosinski, be provided a copy
of Report TR-l00-94 and requested to provide the Chief Administrative Officer
with the names of the representatives who will form part of the co-ordinating
committee;
THAT the Bowmanville and Clarke Museum employees be provided a copy of
Report TR-l00-94 and that their staff be included in the Municipal Employment
Equity Plan;
THAT the co-ordinating committee(s) required to implement Employment Equity
be established as soon as possible;
THAT each Department Head be authorized to post a copy of Report TR-l 00-94
in locations to make the information in Report TR-100-94 available or accessible
to all employees;
THAT information sessions to inform all employees about Employment Equity be
set up by the co-ordinating committee(s) and conducted as soon as possible in
1995;
THAT consultants for Employment Equity be utilized on an "as required" basis to
assist staff in establishing the Employment Equity process and developing the
Employment Equity Plan;
THAT all new employees be provided a copy of the Employment Equity survey
and informed of the principles of Employment Equity and the purpose of the
survey; and
THAT staff report back to Council with the proposed Employment Equity Plan, the
Certificate, and the Report for endorsement prior to the posting of the Plan.

THAT Mcquaid Contracting, Courtice, Ontario, with a total bid price of
$30,131.20 (tax included) and an optional price for sod of $1,177.00 (tax
included), be awarded the contract to provide the demolition of the motel at
1502 Highway No.2, Courtice, Ontario, as required by the Municipality of
Clarington; and
THAT the required funds be drawn from contingency account #7007-00000-0298
and subsequently levied against the property and collected in a like manner as
taxes.
