THE MUNICIPALITY OF CLARINGTON
Minutes of the reconvened special meeting of the General
Purpose and Administration Committee held on Monday,
April 22, 1996 at 1:00 p.m., in the Council Chambers.
ROLL CALL
Present Were:

This meeting was reconvened from April 12, 1996.
Larry Paradis, Chair, Bowmanville Museum Board, advised Council that the 1996
Museum Budget request is the same as 1995 and requested that Counci I approve
the budget as subm itted.
Michael Patrick, Chairman, Visual Arts Centre, advised Comm ittee that the Visual
Arts Centre is requesting an increase of $3,000 over the 1995 budget in order to
properly adjust the salary of the Administrator.

Moved by Councillor Dreslinski, seconded by Councillor Hannah
THAT Resolution #GPA-185-96 (approving a grant in the amount of $1,000 for
the Parent Teacher's Association of Newcastle Public School) and Resolution
#GPA-186-96 (approving a $1,000 grant for the Parent Advisory Council of
Ontario Street School) be reconsidered at this time.

Moved by Councillor Dreslinski, seconded by Councillor Elliott
THAT one-time grants in the amount of $700 be approved for each of the Parent
Teacher's Association of Newcastle Public School, the Parent Advisory Council of
Ontario Street School and the Bowmanvi lie Sen ior Pub I ic School.

Resolution #GPA-272-96
Moved by Councillor Hannah, seconded by Councillor Scott
THAT the grant request received from Friends of the Second Marsh at the regular
General Purpose and Administration Committee meeting held on April 22,1996,
be referred to the Director of Planning and Development to liaise with the Central
Lake Ontario Conservation Authority for clarification of the organization's
programs.

THAT Committee recess for fifteen minutes.

THAT the 1996 budget submission of the Bowmanville Museum Board,
representing a 0% increase over 1995, be accepted as presented.

Moved by Councillor Pingle, seconded by Councillor Elliott
THAT the 1996 budget of the Visual Arts Centre be approved in the amount of
$45,131.

THAT the 1996 budget of the Visual Arts Centre be approved in the amount of
$41,131, being the same amount as 1995.

Resolution #GPA-277-96
Moved by Mayor Hamre, seconded by Councillor Elliott
THAT Resolution #GPA-181-96 (approving a one-time grant in the amount of
$1,000 for Orono United Church) and Resolution #GPA-201-96 (receiving the
grant application from Clarington East Economic Support for information) be
rescinded; and
THAT the grant application from Clarington East Economic Support be
reconsidered at this time.

Moved by Mayor Hamre, seconded by Councillor Elliott
THAT a one-time grant in the amount of $500 be approved for Orono United
Church for the purpose of making the premises wheelchair accessible;
THAT a one-time grant in the amount of $500 be approved for Clarington East
Econom ic Support; and
THAT the Helping Hands Food Bank be requested to submit a grant application,
together with financial data to be considered by the General Purpose and
Administration Committee.

THAT the issue of the hiring of an Economic Development Officer be lifted from
the table and referred to the Chief Administrative Officer for preparation of a
detailed report to be submitted to the General Purpose and Administration
Committee outlining all viable options.
