DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST
Acting Mayor Pingle indicated that she would be making a declaration of interest
with respect to Item 2(a) of Report #1. Councillor Pingle indicated that she
resides in close proximity to the subject property.
Councillor Novak indicated that she would be making a declaration of interest
with respect to Item #19 of Report #1 (Report TR-65-95). Councillor Novak
indicated that the firm being awarded the tender is a client of her employer.

Dennis Wood, Siting Task Force, was not present at the time he was called,
however, was heard later in the meeting.
Karen Cashin, President, The Association for Early Childhood Education,
Ontario, 4026 Squair Road, Orono, LOB IMO, addressed Council requesting the
proclamation of Week of the Child during the week of October 15 - 21, 1995.
Ms. Cashin provided Council with a brief history of the Association.
Don Welsh, 4255 Mearns Avenue, Hampton, LOB lJO, addressed Council with
respect to Report CS-31-95 listed as Report #4 on the Council Agenda.
Mr. Welsh indicated that the Older Adults Committee have met with staff and
the architect, however, they cannot identify areas where the costs of the
renovation of the firehall can be decreased. He requested that Council approve
the additional costs to allow for the renovations to go ahead.
Adrian Foster, 2 Found Crt., Courtice, LIE 2V2, provided Council with an
update on the activities of the Clarington Business Group. He stressed that the
growth of local businesses is vital to the national and local economy.
Peter Ryan, 11 Kingscourt Road, Bowrnanville, LIC 2K7 and Jennifer Aaron,
21 Kingscourt Road, Bowrnanville, LIC 2K7, addressed Council with concerns
regarding Report PD-89-95. Ms. Aaron indicated that the tenants of Kingscourt
Road who are not interested in purchasing their units if the condominium
conversion is approved, have been assured that a long term lease would be
available. To date, she has received nothing in writing to this end. The owner of
the property has stated that five year leases will be available for people over the
age of 65 and Ms. Aaron is requesting that this option be extended for people
under the age of 65. Also, she wishes to be assured that someone will be going
through all units in order to address maintenance concerns.
Ron Collis, 177 Vail Meadows Crescent, Bowrnanville, LIC 4T4, provided
Council with an update of activities of the Ad Hoc Committee to Assist Youth.
He indicated that an opinion line has now been set up and the Committee is
approaching businesses and community associations for their assistance in
distributing flyers throughout the municipality advising of the hotline. Mr. Collis
requested Council's assistance also in the distribution and in posting the tlyer in
various municipal facilities. He indicated that written submissions or interviews
with committee members are being requested from residents of the municipality.
Mr. Collis introduced Christopher Wood who is heading up the youth wing of the
committee.
Dan Strike, Strike, Salmers & Furlong, 38 King Street West, P.O. Box 7,
Bowmanville, Ontario, LIC 3K8, advised Council that he has had an opportunity
to speak with Peter Ryan and Jennifer Aaron and their concerns with regard to
the condominium conversion of Kingscourt Road have been chiefly addressed
under the conditions of approval included in Report PD-89-95. He stated that
any outstanding issues do not merit slowing down of the conversion process.

Dennis Wood, Siting Task Force, provided Council with an update of the
activities undertaken. He indicated that Port Hope has withdrawn as a potential
host community for the low-level radioactive waste and the Task Force is now
dealing with the community of Deep River. The Task Force and the Council of
Deep River have entered into a community agreement in principle which will put
the matter of Deep River becoming a host community to a public referendum on
September 21. Mr. Wood introduced Dr. Moffett who provided Council with the
results of the study for an alternative conceptual de-commissioning plan for the
Welcome Waste Management Facility.
