Barrie Resolution #C-506-94 Moved by Councillor Novak, seconded by Councillor O'Toole THAT the minutes of a regular meeting of Council held on July 18, 1994, be approved. "CARRIED" Resolution #C-507-94 Moved by Councillor O'Toole, seconded by Councillor Hannah THAT the order of the agenda be altered to allow for the delegation of AI Strike, to be heard at this time. Council Minutes DELEGATIONS PRESENTATION - 2- September 12, 1994 AI Strike, Continuing Chairperson, Skate '88, expressed the Committee's thanks to the many persons and service organizations for the Town-wide support in the Skate '88 Campaign. As a final "end of campaign" payment of pledges and donations, Mr. Strike presented Mayor Hamre with a cheque in the amount of $86,334.89. He introduced Marie Hubbard, Project Committee Chairman. Marie Hubbard indicated that the Skate '88 Committee was the most enthusiastic fundraising committee she has had an opportunity to work with. She requested that, as a tribute to their late Chairman, and in recognition of his unique and resourceful leadership in the Skate '88 Campaign, the Council of Clarington rename the Bowmanville Recreation Complex to the Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex. Rickard Recreation Complex. "CARRIED ON THE FOLLOWING RECORDED VOTE" Recorded Vote Yea Nav Absent Councillor Dreslinski Councillor Elliott Councillor Hannah Councillor Novak Councillor O'Toole Councillor Scott Mayor Hamre Mr. Robert Webb, Business Development Manager and Nancy Porteous-Koehle, Director Public Affairs, WMI Waste Management of Canada Inc., made a presentation to Council wherein they introduced a proposal which has the potential to guarantee the closing of Metro Toronto's LandfIlls by the end of 1996 with an assured economical environmentally safe waste management solution. They indicated that their proposal, which would see Metro Toronto's garbage being hauled by rail to Ohio, will guarantee disposal capacity which will eliminate the need for a landfill site in the Region of Durham for a minimum of 20 years. Gillian Barfoot, 75 King Street West, Newcastle, was in attendance to answer questions from Council pertaining to the request for proclamation of Womens' History Month (Correspondence Item D - 15). . . . Council Minutes DELEGATIONS COMMUNICATIONS - 3- September 12, 1994 Peter Abramczuk, President, Oshawa/Durham Homebuilders Association, 44 Rebecca Court, Bowmanville, LIC 4N7, was called but was not present. Robert Pinheiro, 2 Luverme Court, Bowmanville, L1C 4C9, addressed Council on behalf of Bethesda House of Mercy, in an attempt to address concerns raised at the General Purpose and Administration Committee Meeting held on September 6, 1994. Mr. Pinheiro addressed the question of security for the crisis centre, the size of the facility, the adequacy of parking and the qualifications of the board members. David Mactin and Rod MacLeod, Durham Nuclear Awareness Steering Committee, Box 2331, Oshawa, L1H 7V4 appeared before Council and requested that Council pass a resolution requesting the A.E.C.B. to hold a public review of the relicensing of Pickering "A" and "B" Nuclear Generating Stations. They indicated that high population densities are located around the Pickering Stations, the oldest and most dangerous nuclear plants in the country.
