Mr. Robert Webb, Business Development Manager and Nancy Porteous-Koehle,
Director Public Affairs, WMI Waste Management of Canada Inc., made a
presentation to Council wherein they introduced a proposal which has the
potential to guarantee the closing of Metro Toronto's LandfIlls by the end of 1996
with an assured economical environmentally safe waste management solution.
They indicated that their proposal, which would see Metro Toronto's garbage
being hauled by rail to Ohio, will guarantee disposal capacity which will eliminate
the need for a landfill site in the Region of Durham for a minimum of 20 years.
Gillian Barfoot, 75 King Street West, Newcastle, was in attendance to answer
questions from Council pertaining to the request for proclamation of Womens'
