Barrie MINUTES Resolution #C-192-94 Moved by Councillor Scott, seconded by Councillor O'Toole THAT the minutes of a regular meeting of Council held on March 14, 1994, be approved. "CARRIED" DELEGATIONS . Ms. Francine Nicholas, 113 King Street East, Bowmanville, L1C 1N4, addressed Council in an attempt to address a statement of fact regarding Alliance House Women's Shelter and Support Services Inc. for the public record and to clarify some confusiolL She indicated that Alliance House and the FOCUS Group are two different groups and that she is not a member of FOCUS. Alliance House was organized in September 1992 with a mandate to establish a shelter for abused women and children in the Municipality of Clarington. She stated that once the concerns of Alliance House are addressed, i.e., the safety and well-being of abused women and their children, Alliance House will fully support the Bethesda House of Mercy. . . . Council Minutes DELEGATIONS COMMUNICATIONS - 2- March 2S, 1994 Ms. Sandra McCormack, Denise House, Oshawa, Oshawa Centre Postal Outlet, P.O. Box 30560, Oshawa, LlJ SLS, addressed Council with respect to Report PD-31-94. She indicated that the Denise House, located in Oshawa, can accommodate 26 women and children at one time and during 1993, 443 women and children were helped at this shelter. This number does not include the calls received requesting general informatiolL Ms. McCormack stated that prior to any shelter being formed, there is a need for community consultation and Council must realize a responsibility to determine how support will be given in the future. Tielemans, regarding the clearing of snow on the sidewalk at 191 Church Street, be received; THAT the correspondence be referred to the Clerk for consideration in conjunction with the review of the municipal by-law regulating snow clearing on sidewalks; and THAT D. Council Minutes OTHER BUSINESS CommitteelBoards Update CONFIRMING BY-LAW - 11- March 28, 1994 Councillor Dreslinski indicated that the Newcastle Rl.A have raised sull1cient funds to instal new Christmas lights throughout the Village. Also on the weekend, Councillor Dreslinski attended a puck-dropping for the Girls' Hockey Association Tournament, a tournament which the Newcastle II team won. Councillor Dreslinski indicated that there will be a new store opening in Newcastle Village next month and that Orono has two new stores opening in the near future. Councillor Novak read a letter of appreciation to the Director of Public Works from seniors who have enjoyed the snow clearing program this winter. Councillor O'Toole indicated that the Bowmanville Museum will be opening on Sunday April 4, 1994, for their new season.
