Council Minutes COMMUNICATIONS D - 8 Orono Nursery E04.3817.GE - 6 - March 9, 1992 Resolution #C-178-92 Moved by Councillor Dreslinski, seconded by Councillor Hooper WHEREAS the Ministry of Natural Resources is seriously considering reducing the number of Provincial tree nurseries; WHEREAS the Orono Nursery has been identifIed as one of the possible closures; WHEREAS the Orono Nursery has a significant and positive impact and benefit on the local community, the Region of Durham and the Province at large; and WHEREAS the proposed reorganization of staffmg for the Orono Nursery will be detrimental to the short and long term viability of this facility: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE: 1) THAT Council not support the proposed reorganization for the Orono Nursery; 2) THAT the Orono Nursery continue to provide its signifJcal1t historic, economic, educational and environmental importance to the Region and the Province as a whole; 3) THAT the Ministry of Natural Resources examine an alternative proposal which reflects the Orono Nursery's significant contribution to the community's economy; and 4) THAT a copy of this resolution be forward to the Honourable Bud Wildman, Minister of Natural Resources and Mr. Gordon Mills, M.P.P.
