HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/25/1975 TOWN OF NEWCASTLE Finance Committee June 25, 1975 Minutes of a Special Meeting of the Finance Committee held in the Bowmanville Committee Room on Wednesday, June 25th, 1975, at 7 p.m. Roll Present were: Con. H. B. Tink, Chairman Call Con. I. M. Hobbs, Member Con. D. W. Allin, Member Con. K. E. Lyall, Member Con. A. Cowman, Member_, attended at 7:40 p.m. and left at 8:45 p.m. Mayor G. B. Rickard, Member, attended at 8:10 p.m. Con. K. Ent-wisle, Member, attended at 8:30 p.m. Newcastle Also present: Mr. F. Hawes, 'yhair�'-Ian Newcastle Recreation Committee. Recreation Mrs. M. Brereton Committee Mr. S. Brereton Mr. T. Fanning, Director of Recreation. Mr. F. Hawes spoke to the meeting requesting that the Finance Committee reconsider the budget allocation for the Newcastle Recreation Committee, set at $10,000. He explained that, in his opinion, it would be impossible for his Committee to operate with this amount of. money. Resolution #F-234-75 Moved by Con. Lyall, seconded by Mayor Rickard 'SHAT Finance Resolution #F-188-75 be rescinded. The vote was three (3) for two (2) against and the Chairman ruled that since this rescinding motion did not have the required 2/3 majority, the motion was lost. Resolution #F-235-75 Moved by Ma -or Rickard seconded by Con. Lyall THAT the Budget allocation for the Newcastle Recreation Committee be incre-.sed by $5,000. and that the Committee maintain a close liaison with Mr. Fanning Director of Recreation, to determine if any programme of the Newcastle Recreation Committee warranted additional funds. In the event additions funds are required, these funds would be cushioned through the Recreation Department with the concurrence of the Community Services Committee. Con. Hobbs called for a po11!°.ci vote, Mayor Rickard - yea Con. Hobbs nay Con. Allin - ea Con. Cowman nay Con. Lyall - yea Con. Tink - yea Con. Entwisle abstained from voting "CARRIED" Finance Committee - 2 - June 25, 1975 Resolution 0--236-75 Moved by Mayor Rickard, seconded by Con. Allin Recreation THAT the sum of Y20,000. be added back to the Recreation Budget Department Budget. "CARRIED" The Treasurer presented the meeting with a draft of the mill rates and advised the Committee that, at this time, it was a guide only. Next The next meeting of the Finance Committee was called for meeting Wednesday, July 2nd, 1975, at 1:30 p.m. in the Bowmanville Committee Room to finalize the mill rate. Resolution #F-237-75 Moved by Con. Allin, seconded by Con. Lyall THAT the Committee concur with the Treasurer's recommendation pertaining to the hiring of a Payroll Clerk. "CARRIED" Tyrone Con. Allin advised that all matters pertaining to the Hall construction of the Tyrone Hall had been finalized. The Construction Treasurer was requested to advise the Tyrone Hall Board of the necessity of transferring their building funds to the Town of Newcastle for the payment of all accounts in order to qualify for a Community Centres Grant. Resolution 0-238-75 Moved by Con. Lyall, seconded by Con. Hobbs Adjournment THAT the meeting adjourn at 10:10 p.m. "CARRIED"
