Subject: MONTHLY FIRE REPORT - SEPTEMBER, 1997
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration
Committee recommend to Council the following:
THAT Report FD-13-97 be received for information.
1 BACKGROUND
1 .1 Our report covers the month of September, 1997. It is our intent to provide
Committee with information relevant to this department, in a timely manner.
2. REPORT
2.1 The department responded to 156 calls in September and recorded total fire loss
at $12,003.00. A breakdown of the calls responded to follows.

2. REPORT
2.1 The defibrillator fund raising total, in the Fire Department,Equipment Reserve
Account, has reached $29,786 with a further $8,000 pledged by the Bowmanville
Memorial Hospital Foundation.
2.2 Funds have been withdrawn from the Fire Department Equipment Reserve
Account to purchase one defibrillator so that training can be initiated. Training
is schedule to commence in November.

3 -2.3 The department's target date for having all defibrillator training completed and the
units on the pumpers is March 1, 1998. In this regard we will be drawing funds
from the Equipment Reserve Account, as required.
2.4 Fire Prevention Week was another success this year. Attendance at the Open
House on Sunday, October 5th is estimated at around 1 ,000.
2.5 Displays consisted of antique fire extinguishers, various residential detectors,
woodstove safety, old photos and antiques on loan from the Bowmanville and
Clarke Museums. Four antique fire trucks and an air fun house completed the
display. Sparky's ABC of Fire Safety, a ten minute children's video, was shown
every 15 minutes. Tours continued for the rest of the week with an estimated 500
visitors.
2.6 On behalf of the Clarington Fire Department I would like to thank all involved for
their efforts in making this the best Fire Prevention Week to-date.
3. RECOMMENDATIONS
3.1 It is respectfully recommended that report FD-13-97 be received for information.
