REPORT
Meeting: GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE File
NOVEMBER 20, 1995 Res.
Date: 2L-2
By-Law#
Report#:__FAD_-18_-95_ File#:
Subject: FIRE DEPARTMENT TANKER #3
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration
Committee recommend to Council the following:
1.) THAT Report FD-1 B-95 be received;
2.) THAT the 1971 tanker formerly stationed at Station #3, Orono be declared
surplus;
3.) THAT the tanker be sold through the tender process; and
4.) THAT the funds received be deposited into the Fire Department Equipment
Reserve Account for the purpose of replacing the tanker once sufficient funds are
available.
1. BACKGROUND
1.1 This tanker is a 1971 vehicle and has been in service since it was purchased by
the Municipality. It requires major repairs estimated to be in the area of $15,000
to $20,000. The repairs include:

2. new brakes

1.2
2 -1.2 It is our opinion, given the age of the vehicle, it would not be good judgement to
spend the funds required to make this vehicle functional.
1.3 The tanker from Station #1, Bowmanville has been relocated so that Orono has
a functional tanker available. This ensures that the rural areas are protected by
tankers. The department can operate with 4 tankers until such time as sufficient
funds are available in the department's reserve account to allow us to replace this
vehicle.
1.4 Declaring Tanker#3 as surplus will allow it to be sold through the tender process.
The vehicle is not serviceable. If we do not sell it we will still be required to store
and insure the vehicle. The money received for the vehicle will be placed in the
Fire Department Reserve Account for future needs.
2. RECOMMENDATIONS
2.1 It is respectfully recommended that, given the condition of this twenty-five year old
vehicle and the costs involved to repair it, Tanker #3 be declared as surplus.
2.2 It is also recommended that, should the vehicle be declared surplus, it be sold
through the tender process, and the funds be allocated to the Fire Department
Equipment Reserve Account for future needs.
