MOCK DISASTER EXERCISE - BOWMANVILLE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
THAT Report FD-8-95 be received for information.
1. BACKGROUND
1.1 Plans have been progressing for approximately six months for a mock disaster
exercise, to test the ability of Bowmanville Memorial Hospital's emergency service
to handle an emergency with a large number of casualties.
1.2 The exercise planning committee consists of representatives from the hospital,
Durham Regional Police, the ambulance service, the various school boards and
Clarington Fire Department.
1.3 The planning committee has prepared a scenario where a tanker truck and school
bus are involved in a collision necessitating the transport and care of
approximately 45 casualties.
1.4 The exercise will take place on May 10, 1995 at approximately 10:00 a.m. The
disaster location is at Bragg Road and Concession 3, Bowmanville.
2. COMMENTS
2.1 Clarington Fire Department's participation in this exercise involves sifting on the
planning committee, providing staff to assist in the preparation of the scenario,
taking part in the exercise, as well as providing observers to critique the entire
exercise.

2 -2.2 We have also agreed, with the assistance of the Clerk's department, to notify
residents in the area, of the date and time of the exercise. A notice will be
forwarded to each resident, by mail.
2.3 It is anticipated that the exercise will provide worthwhile training for the
participants involved. Training of this type can only enhance the abilities of
everyone involved to provide emergency services to the residents of the
municipality, as well as visitors to the area.
3. RECOMMENDATION
3.1 It is respectfully recommended that report Fd-8-95 be received for information.
