HomeMy WebLinkAboutFD-3-95 THE CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF CLARINGTON REPORT Meeting: GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE F i I e Date: FEBRUARY 20, 1995 Res. # By-Law Report#:__F_D_-315_ Fife#t: Subject: MONTHLY FIRE REPORT - JANUARY, 1995 Recommendations: It is respectfully recommended that report FD-3-95 be received for information. 1. BACKGROUND 1.1 Our report covers the month of January, 1995 and will be submitted monthly to provide Committee with information relevant to this department, in a timely manner. 2. REPORT 2.1 The department took delivery of the Zodiac inland inflatable boat and related equipment this month. This equipment will be used for performing water based rescue. Pursuant to the rescue training requirements of this department training for water rescue will commence the last week in February and will be conducted by a member of the Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue Training and Prevention Bureau. 2.2 Ice rescue training will start in March and will be delivered by Captain G. Weir and Captain T. Elyea, who have both been certified by the Canadian Coast Guard to instruct ice rescue training to fire departments. 2.3 Captain G. Weir successfully completed an intensive high angle rescue "Train the Trainer" course conducted at Seneca College. As a result of this, Captain Weir will be conducting high angle rescue training this summer for all full time firefighters. Continued..... 11-a I ­Yl­IA- FD-3-95 - 2 - 2.4 2 -2.4 In October, 1994, Captain M. Berney successfully completed a 40 hour Communications Training Officer (CTO) course at Durham College. This course is taught from the National Communications Institute Basic Communications Officer Course. This month, the four new dispatchers, hired in 1994, received the National Communications Institute Certificate for successfully completing the N.C.I. Basic Communications Course, instructed by Captain Berney. 2.5 In January we started Captain D. Chambers in the Fire Protection Technology Course conducted at the Ontario Fire College. This intense course will-take four years to finish. 2.6 The department responded to 95 calls in January and recorded total fire loss at $37,550. Listed below is a breakdown of the calls responded to. FD-3-95 - 3 - 2.7 3 -2.7 The owner and tenant of 173 Baseline Rd. East, Bowmanville are being charged by the Ministry of the Environment and this department for illegal tire storage. There is a threat of vandals setting afire, which may cause serious environmental damage, and due to the structural instability of the building, extinguishing any fire will be difficult. A fire occurred on this site last year. 2.8 The use of Call Tags has been adopted from the Ajax Fire Department. The purpose of the tags is to let people know that a representative of the fire department has been at the premises and wish to set up an appointment or discuss a-matter: The owner-/tenant-is asked-to telephone the fire department. The Call Tags (sample attached) are very visible whereas business cards are easily missed. 2.9 Clarington Fire Department firefighters have entered a team in the Southern Ontario Firefighters Hockey League Tournament to be held February 21 - 24, 1995 in Etobicoke. Teams from all over Canada and the United States are competing in this first class competition. 3. RECOMMENDATIONS 3.1 It is respectfully recommended that report FD-3-95 be received for information.
