BACKGROUND 1.1 This report covers the last quarter of,1994 and will also serve as a year end report of fire department activities for 1994. 1.2 In 1994 the department had three members complete the Fire Protection Technology program at the Ontario Fire College. Those who completed the program were Deputy Chief Bill Hesson, Captain Mark Berney and Captain Gord Weir. 1.3 The fire prevention inspector took part in a joint program with the Fire Marshal's Office and Canadian Tire Corporation, which provided smoke detectors at a reduced price. A portion of the money collected for the program will go to fire prevention in Ontario to purchase such items as the "Learn Not To Burn" programs for nursery and elementary schools. Inspector Reinert sold over 400 detectors to companies and residents in our municipality. 1.4 The equipment for Ice/Water Rescue has been ordered and will cost just over $11,000. The budget was approved at $15,000 and the residual funds will be used for other departmental expenses as funds were drawn from the department's equipment reserve account. 1.5 During November and December full time staff took part with crews from Darlington Nuclear Generating Station in co-training held at the Wesleyville training facility.
