BACKGROUND 1.1 The fire department was approached some time ago by the Clarington Hydro Electric Commission, requesting that we consider answering their telephone calls after normal business hours. 1.2 On December 13, 1994 a meeting was held with David Clarke, Manager of Clarington Hydro Electric Commission, the Chief Administrative Officer, W. H. Stockwell and Fire Chief M. Creighton to discuss the manner in which the fire department would answer the after hours telephone calls for Clarington Hydro. If Council approves, the following terms were discussed and agreed upon by both parties. Continued..... - 2 - 1.3 Commencing March 1, 1994 telephone calls received at Clarington Hydro, after normal office hours, will be forwarded to Fire Department Dispatch. 1.4 Clarington Hydro will provide training for fire department personnel and manuals to assist in answering the telephone calls. 1.5 In the event of a major incident, either fire or hydro related, which would result in more personnel being needed in the Dispatch Centre, Clarington Hydro will bring in their staff to take up the overflow of calls so that Fire Department Dispatch will maintain its level of service. 1.6 All capital costs that are incurred to set up this service will be paid for by Clarington Hydro. 1.7 It was agreed that Clarington Hydro would pay to the Municipality of Clarington the sum of $180.00 per month for this service. 2. COMMENTS 2.1 It is the intention of both Clarington Hydro and Clarington Fire Department that a higher level of service will be provided to our residents by entering into this agreement. 2.2 The fees paid by Clarington Hydro, when credited to the Fire Department Equipment Reserve Account will assist in relieving the tax levy. 3. RECOMMENDATIONS 3.1 That report FD-1-95 be received; 3.2 That commencing March 1, 1995 Fire Department Dispatch personnel answer the after business hours telephone calls for Clarington Hydro Electric Commission; and 3.3 That the monthly fee of $180 received for this service be credited to Fire Department Equipment Reserve Account No. 2900-00014-x.
