HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 01-12-53 Hamston, jan. 12, lF51. YIembers elect of Darlington Council met this day at 11 A.Y.o' clock, at which time they subscribed to their Declaration of Office. Renes Mr. Empey addressed the Council on Democracy and offered prayer for the members of Council in their efforts to carry on a good Tunicipal Uvernment, Im Deputy Reece Rickard moved a vote of thanks to Mr. Empey for his message. Reeve Nichols called on Deputy Reeve Rickard for a few remarks in 7hich he stated that the people were demanding more services which when provided must be 7aid for. Councillor Vice welcomed the new members of Council and hoped for a propperous year, Councillor TAb said he was new to the work but would do his best to keep higher costs down. Councillor Stevens said that co-operation was the main thing although the board may not see eye to eye in all things. Reeve Nichols addressed the Council and said that he was glad to welcome the new members and asked the Council for their Co-operation for the coming year and asked that each would do their share. Ex-Reeve A.L.Fascoe spoke a few words to the effect that it was about 30 years ago since he first was in Council, and also spoke of the changes that had taken place since that time. On motion the meeting adjourned for dinner to meet at the call of the chair. Council resumed business at the call of the chair, when the minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted. Communication was read from the Rotary Club invit&ng the Reeve and Hemler s of Council to attend their Civic MeetinE to be held on Friday Jan. 27 at e.-IC P.M. at the Talmoral Hotel. On =otion of W.G.tri ce and Ross Stevens the Council accept this invit- ation. Or motion of Murray Tabb and G.B.Rickard.i.W.3alson be appointed SU. Officer. Communication was read from E.A.Summers , Agricultural Rep. regarding meetinE re-control of Warble Ky to be held in Township Hall on Wednesday Jan. 14, at 2 WHT Albert Bothwell, Building insp. addressed the Council re-BuildinE 3y-Law, and building permits. The Council advised him to continue and to have the By-Law revised to cover our requirements. On motion of E.70.7ice and R. Stevens that Mothwell go to L.C.Hason and have a 3y-Law draw-n to conform kith our requirements. Rates of 7a7 for lalour for 1953.
