HomeMy WebLinkAbout1955-01-10 January 1C. 155- The Inaugural Meeting of Dar=ington To-nship Council was held this day at 11 o'clock. Declaration of Office gas administered the Members Elect: Reeve Roy V. Nichols, Deputy Reeve Everett F.G.Vice, and Councillors Ross C. Stevens.Percy '.-Terry and, Charles Osborne. Rev. Reed delivered an address to Council which was very appropiate for the occasion. Deputy Reeve Vice moved a vote of thanks to Dr. Reed for his services. The old Members of Council welcomed the new Member and expressed their Willingness and desire to co-operate and work in harmony throughout the year. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and on motion of Councillors Stevens and .Jerry were approved as read. Letter was read from Rural and Urban lunicival Association. On motion 810.00 Membership fee be sent to ural & Urban Municipalities Assoc. On motion :10.00 Membership fee be sent to the Ont. Good Roads Assoc. On motion $10.00 be sent the Ont. Assoc. of Rural Municipalities. Resolution from the City of Port Arthur re pensions for widows and dependents under the 7or?Len's Compebusat-!on Act was reao, and on motion of Deputy Peeve Vice and Councillor Werry endorsed. On motion of Councillor Stevens and Deputy Reeve Vice, Clerk order 40 tons of Calcium Chloride delivered by transport on lay lst. 1955. Carried. On notion of Councillor Stevens and Councillor Osborne, the Road Supt. was authorized to order a supply of culverts. Carried. Deputation of E. Summers and R. Glaspell appeared asking financial assistance in carrying out the Brucellosis Campaign. Inspectors feel that they are not receivily enough pay for their work. On motion of Councillor Osborne and Deputy Reeve Vice the payment was set at .30 per calf,, this to be retroactive to July 1j54. Carried. Representative from the Compressed Air Equipment addressed Council re Grader. Deputation from North Darlington appeared re the 7th Concession line asking Council to improve the road most of the Scugog Road. On motion of Councillor Stevens and Deputy Reeve Vice, the Clerk write the Engineer to meet the Road Supt: -and others re straightening road at the old saw mill road and Moore's hill on the 7th. Concession, some time in April. Mr. I Eardy addressed Council re accident on road allowance between Lots 16 & 17_ Concession 6; Darlington. Clerk to write the Insurance Company and find out their actual findings in regard to this accident. On motion of Deputy Reeve Vice and Councillor ?Jerry, the Tenders for Maintainer are to be opened on Tuesday, January 25th. at 1.30; P.M., and the firms who tendered and the Dept. Engineer are to be notified. Carried. On motion of Councillors Stevens and Osborne the Bank Signers Resolution was passed as read. On notion of Councillors Stevens and Osborne we establish a sizable sand pile mixed with salt, so that in an emergency we may use all equipment to sand roads. Carried. Clerk was instructed to write Mr. Donald, Registrars Department, informing him of the cost of the survey in Lot 35, Concession 2 & 3; Darlington, and asking him .ghat should be done to complete the survey and if grants are available for this purpose. . Clerk was instructed to w=rite the Dept. of Highways, Toronto; describing the intersection at Ebenezer Church and asking for authority to erect a stop sign at the eastern approach to the intersection. Next regular meeting February 1155 at 1.30 P.M. On motion of Councillor Osborne meeting adjourned. clerk_ . . . f
