Date: June 19, 2000 Res. #(W 4 00
Report #: CS -11 -00 By -law #
Subject: CANADA DAY 2000
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee

3. THAT Mr. John Fletcher be advised of actions taken.
1.0 BACKGROUND
1.1 Correspondence from Mr. John Fletcher, a member of the Orono Canada Day 2000
Committee (Attachment #1) was received and subsequently referred to staff for
report.
1.2 For the past number of years, it has been customary for Service/Business Groups to
sponsor a free "Canada Day Swim" at the municipally operated outdoor pools. On
these occasions, the Community Services Department has accommodated those
groups by invoicing the respective sponsors for the number of swimmers using the
pools.
1.3 This process has proved successful in the past, and arrangements have been made
to provide for the same process this year.
1.4 Each year the Orono Canada Day Committee has requested that the parking fees in
the Orono Park be waived and to date, the parking fee has been waived for this
special occasion.
