THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT Public Works investigate
and report back to Council in the fall the feasibility of a pedestrian
bridge on Old Kingston Road to connect the communities in the area
and to provide a natural additional walking path for the residents of
Courtice. "
2.0 REVIEW AND COMMENT
2.1 The former vehicular bridge was removed in 1999 leaving the residents with no access over
the creek on Old Kingston Road.
2.2 Staff are recommending that a 25-foot long arched galvanized steel bridge, with a 3 tonne
capacity, complete with white oak decking, be installed. The bridge will be engineered to
meet all applicable codes and regulations and would be for pedestrian use only.
2.3 The estimated cost for the supply, installation and engineering design is $12,000.00 plus
GST.
3.0 CONCLUSION
3.1 Staff feel that the purchase and installation of a pedestrian bridge over the Farewell Creek at
Old Kingston Road represents a feasible project and will be including this item for Council's
consideration in the 2001 Capital Budget.
