CO-OPERATIVE TENDER
T280-00, THE SUPPLY (AND DELIVERY) OF SODIUM CHLORIDE
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee
recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report TR-26-00 be received;
2. THAT the Canadian Salt Co., Ltd., Mississauga, Ontario, with a total unit price of
$47.99 per tonne, being the lowest responsible bidder meeting all terms,
conditions and specifications of the Co-operative Tender T280-00, be awarded the
contract to supply Bulk Sodium Chloride to the Municipality of Clarington, as
required by the Department of Public Works;
3, THAT pending satisfactory service and agreement by the Durham Purchasing
Co-operative, the contract be extended for a second and third year; and
4. THAT the funds be drawn from the Public Works approved Winter Maintenance
Accounts for the respective years winter season requirements.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
Tenders were called on a co-operative basis by the Region of Durham, which included
the Sodium Chloride requirements of the Municipality of Clarington. Tenders were
received and tabulated for approximately 10,000 tonnes of Sodium Chloride, as required
by the Municipality of Clarington, as per Schedule "A" attached.
After review and analysis of the bids by Purchasing and Public Works staff, it was
mutually agreed that the low bidder, Canadian Salt Co. Ltd., Mississauga, Ontario, be
recommended for the contract to supply Sodium Chloride to the Municipality of
Clarington. The required funds will be drawn from the respective years winter season
requirements from which there are adequate funds available.

Note, based on the unit prices submitted for Tender T279-00, Delivery of Sodium
Chloride which is addressed in a separate report to Council, it is more economical to
award this contract based on supply only to the Bowmanville Dock.
The Treasurer has reviewed the funding requirements and concurs with the
recommendation. Queries with respect to department needs, specifications etc., should
be referred to the Director of Public Works.
The prices submitted by the Canadian Salt Co., Ltd. reflect an approximate 8% increase
and 11 % increase respectively over the 1997 prices submitted .
The Canadian Salt Co. Ltd, have provided satisfactory service to the Municipality of
Clarington.
