It is respectfully recommended to Council, the following;
1. THAT Report CD-52-00 be received; and
2. THAT By-law 91-08 be repealed and a new Taxi Tariff By-law be enacted; and
3 . THAT the interested parties listed hereinafter be advised of Council's actions.
BACKGROUND:
The Clarington Taxi By-law sets out the approved rates for tariff charges. The current rate was set in 1991.
Since that time operating cost for cabs have risen substantially. Staff have received requests from the taxi
industry to raise the rate. The other Municipalities within the Region have been canvassed in order to establish
a consistent rate.
The area Municipalities that have responded to our enquiries all have rates which were set in 1991 and 1992.
The highest of these was Oshawa at a "drop rate" of$2.25. The taxi owners had asked for a least $2.35 as a
"drop rate". In view of the continued increase in the cost of fuel and maintenance, staff believe that an
increased drop rate to $2.50 would not be unreasonable.
It is, therefore, recommended that the rate be increased to that amount and appropriate by-law be forwarded to
Council. The taxi industry has been made aware of this recommendation.

THE CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF CLARINGTON
BY-LAW
being a By-law to amend Tariff "A" to By~law 74-72,
"a By-law for the establishing of rates and fares
to be charged by the owners or drivers
of taxicabs or other vehicles used for hire,
and to repeal By-law 91-8.
WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality ofClarington
deems it advisable to amend By-law 74-72. as amended by By-law 91-8.
NOW THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE
MUNICIPALITY OF CLARINGTON HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
I. THAT Tariff "A'" to By-law 74-72, as amended by By-law 91-8, is hereby further
by deleting Tariff "A" therefrom, and substituting the attached Tariff "A"
therefor.
2. THAT By-law 91-8 shall be repealed effective December 1,2000,
3 . THAT this By-law shall come into force and take effect on December], 2000,
By-law read a first and second time this day of
2000.
By-law read a third time and finally passed this day of
2000.

TARIFF "A" TO BY-LAW
RATES BY DISTANCE IN KILOMETERS
ONE TO FOUR PASSENGERS TARIFF RATE
"Drop Rate" $2,50
For each additional 1110 kilometer or part thereof $0.15
Waiting time while under hire per minute $0.40
For each additional passenger, except babies in arms, a flat charge of $0.40
LIMOUSINE BY TIME
For the fIrst hour or part thereof
$30.00
For each additional fifteen (15) minutes
$ 6.50
OTHER CHARGES
For each trunk accompanying a passenger
$ 0.25
For each piece of hand luggage handled by tbe driver
in excess of two (2) pieces.
$ 0.15
Fares may be discounted by 10% for senior citizens.
A CODY of the above Tariff shall be Drominentlv disnlaved in all Taxicabs.
