Hayman, Fire Chief DATE: January 29, 1980 SUBJECT: Orono-Hydro Electric Building - Resolution #CS-138-79 "THAT Fire Chief Hayman's report dated July 4th, 1979, be endorsed and in the event of the transfer of the Orono Hydro Electric offices to a central office, consideration be given to the feasibility of acquiring the building for Fire Station #3, Orono" With reference to the proposed request for possible use of the former Hydro Building, Village of Orono, for Fire Station #3, Orono. Site location The building is a single storey, located on the corner of Park and Church Streets, Orono, just to the east of the existing fire station. It is owned by the Town of Newcastle and will be vacated on the 29th of February. The building is 93 ft. x 42 ft. containing 3,906 square feet. The front entrance facing Park Street, consist of the office area 25 feet by 42 feet- 1050 square feet. They are in excellent condition, electric heated and would require no alterations. The apparatus floor area is 68 feet by 43 feet-2856 square feet, consisting of open space next to the office area and a wooden partition storage area at the rear of the apparatus floor with a second floor former gentlemens club meeting room. The basement consists of one long narrow section (former shooting range) and a storage and furnace room in the north section. Parking Facilities Would consist of the area west of the building and the Town Hall. Alterations 1) Remove existing wooden partitions and wood floor. 2) Install reinforced concrete floor in area of wooden floor and partitions. 3) Install fire rated ceiling over apparatus floor area (ceiling height 15 feet) insulation. 4) Install gable wall above office area and apparatus area. 5) Install three door frames and electric operated doors east wall of building. 6) Requires new furnace for apparatus area (would be installed in existing furnace room in basement) . Site Development 1) Requires relocating Hydro Pole. 2) Replace existing water service with a 4 inch line. 3) Install a tower for radio antenna. With these alterations the station would be a 3 bay unit along with offices and storage in the basement. Dispatch area located in the office and would accommodate the area for at least 10 years.
