Tender CL2004-23, Driveway Paving
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee
recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report COD-028-04 be received;
2. THAT Melrose Paving Company Ltd., Etobicoke, Ontario, with a total bid amount of
$53,600.58, being the lowest responsible bidder meeting all terms, conditions and
specifications of Tender CL2004-23, be awarded the contract for Driveway Paving; and
3. THAT the funds expended be provided from the 2004 Operations Budget.

BACKGROUND AND COMMENT
Tenders were publicly advertised and called for Driveway Paving, as required by the Operations
Department.
Subsequently, tenders were received and tabulated as follows:
Melrose Paving Company Ltd.
Etobicoke, ON
Tri-Son Contracting Inc.
Port Per ,Ontario
$64,735.00
The Operations Department requires approximately 2,200 square metres of driveway paving.
For the information of Council, the unit prices per square metre represent an approximate 3%
decrease over those bid, for 2003.
After further review and analysis of the tender by Operations and Purchasing, it was mutually
agreed that Melrose Paving Company Ltd., Etobicoke, Ontario, be recommended for the
contract for Driveway Paving, as required by the Operations Department.
The total funds required for Tender CL2004-23, Driveway Paving, are included in various
accounts within the 2004 Operations Budget.
The Director of Finance has reviewed the funding requirements and concurs with the
recommendation. Queries with respect to department needs, specifications, etc., should be
referred to the Director of Operations.
Although the low bidder has not previously performed for the Municipality of Clarington, they
have provided similar work and satisfactory service for Brown and Beattie Engineering
Consultants and Tor Bear Contracting.
