THAT Report ADMIN-16-95 be received for information. 1. PURPOSE 1.1 This report summarizes the activities of the Economic Development Office for the period March 4 - April 1, 1995. 2. ACTIVITY UPDATE 2.1 Information Requests A total of thirty-five requests for information were serviced by the office during this period. Requests for development information from existing businesses and the general public represented the majority of requests (20). Eleven requests for information about starting a new business and four requests for commercial & industrial space information were also serviced during this period. 1101 nus i3 PRI-E-4 PAPER Report ADMIN-16-95 Page 2 2.2 Community/Government Liaison Three opportunities for community and government agency liaison occurred in March. The Economic Development Officer met with business representatives of the Durham Region POD B Strategic Alliance Group. As well, the Economic Development Officer attended the Mayor's Annual Breakfast Meeting and the monthly meeting of the GTA Economic Development Partnership. Two business visitations were made in March. Visitations occur on a regular basis in order to gather information of importance to the business community and to outline the services of the office. The Economic Development Officer visited J & M Tire, and also participated in a tour of General Motors of Canada Ltd. sponsored by the Durham Region Manufacturers Association. I 2.3 Advertising/Media Liaison No mentions of economic development activities were covered by media during this i period. No advertising was purchased during this period. i 2.4 Known New Businesses The economic development office became aware of five new businesses during this period. Lifestyles Home Comfort, Ki-Soo-Do Martial Arts, Snackers and Durham Rapid Shred all operate in Bowmanville. Carol Anne's Custom Sewing and Alterations opened in Orono. 2.5 Other The Economic Development Officer attended a de-briefing meeting of the Greater Toronton Area economic development participants who attended the Society of Automotive Engineers Congress in February. A planning meeting was also held with the Oshawa & District Chamber of Commerce concerning the "Doing Businesss With Government" Purchasing Trade Show scheduled for September 28, 1995.
