By-Law# 17-9 tile#: Subject: WESTSIDE CREEK MARSH ST. MARYS CEMENT Recommendations: It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee recommend to Council the following: 1. THAT Administrator's Report ADMIN. 17-94 be received for information. REPORT: 1. Earlier this year, Council requested the Waterfront Regeneration Trust to assist the Municipality in exploring ways and means to address the issue of preserving the Westside Creek Marsh within the St. Marys Cement property. The Chief Administrative Officer and the Director of Planning and Development have subsequently met with the Honourable David Crombie on at least two occasions. 2. At the last meeting with Mr. Crombie, which was also attended by senior personnel from the Trust and St. Marys Cement, the Chief Administrative Officer advised that it is the ultimate goal of Council to find a solution to save the marsh. It became apparent at the meeting that the issue is complex and not well understood in the community. In order to allow St. Marys Cement to explain its proposals, to explore available options, and to allow other stakeholders to express their views, Mr. Crombie offered to chair up to three public information sessions co-sponsored by the Waterfront Regeneration Trust and the Municipality of Clarington. Staff understands that St. Marys Cement has agreed to participate in this process. 3. The public consultation meeting is tentatively scheduled towards the end of November or early December, subject to confirmation of the actual dates from the Waterfront Regeneration Trust. The Chief Administrative Officer will undertake to provide a meeting facility as well as to place the necessary advertisements in the local newspapers. Respectfully submitted, W. H.
