Request for financial funding of the
Ukrainian Canadian Professional and Business Federation
May 15 - 18 1987
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1 . That Administrator's report ADMIN. 12 - 87 be received for
information and direction.
REPORT:
Recently Council discussed a request of the Ukrainian Canadian
Professional and Business Federation regarding a monetary contribution
of $1 ,500 as it relates to the May 15 - 18 1987 National Convention
to be held in the City of Oshawa.
As previously discussed, it would appear that the Convention is
scheduled to take place essentially within the City of Oshawa.
Discussions with convention organizers indicate that the convention
will attract approximately 200 delegates and their spouses from
26 cities across Canada to the Region during the period mentioned above.

However, the precise level of activity that those visitors
generate within the various municipalities cannot be determined.
We have been advised that the convention will include some
excursions outside of the City of Oshawa within the Town of Whitby
(Cullen Gardens) and the Town of Newcastle (Darlington Generating
Station) . In addition, we have been advised that the City of Oshawa
and the Regional Municipality of Durham have made a contribution in
the amount of $1 ,500 each for this event while the Town of Whitby has
elected not to provide a contribution.
