That Report #ADMIN.6-87 be received; and 2. That in the event that someone other than a member of Council is to be appointed to the Social Planning Council Board of Directors, that the Clerk be directed to advertise for applications to fill the appointment. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: As of March of 1986 the Social Planning Councils of Newcastle and Oshawa-Whitby have amalgamated. Communication received from Susan Fletcher, Executive Director outlined a request for permission to use the Municipality's name as part of their organization, as well as a request for representation on their Board of Directors. By resolution # C-210-87 Council has authorized incorporation of the Municipality's name with that of the Oshawa-Whitby Social Planning Council . With respect to the appointment of a representative on the Board of Directors and after examining the parameters of the Board it is felt that the mandate of the Social Planning Council does not fall within the scope of the various departments. Therefore a recommendation whereby Council may appoint one of its members or a citizen from the public sector is appropriate. . ./2 General Purpose and Administration Committee REPORT NO. CS-14-87 Page 2. The appointee would be required to commit approximately 5 - 8 hours per month as a member of the Board and is generally assumed that Board Members will work with any one of a number of Committees appointed by the Board (1987 Committees are outlined in the attachments) . The appointee would report to the G. P. & A. Committee on a regular basis. Although the SPC has included Newcastle since our amalgamation with the Newcastle SPC last March, complete and correct bylaws are only now ready for approval. In connection with this event, I must make the following 2 requests: 1. That the Town of Newcastle give us official permission to use its name in our new name. 2. That the Town of Newcastle appoint a representative to be a member of the SPC's Board of Directors. Although we would prefer that this person be a Councillor, a designated staff person would also be appropriate, The Board meets on the first Tuesday of each month, at 7:30 p.m. , in Simcoe Hall Children's Centre, 600 Townline Rd. S. , Oshawa. Our Annual Meeting will be held on March 3, 7:30 p.m. , at Hillsdale Manor in Oshawa, as outlined on the .attached flyer.
