Res. #e,- --- ---- By-Law #
(STING: GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE
DATE: SEPTEMBER 21 1986
REPORT #: ADMIN. 62 - 86 FILE #: Clerk's 16.19.107
SUBJECT: Lease Agreement with the Ministry of Government Services
Holding Cells, Police and Fire Building
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration
Committee recommend to Council the following:
1 . That Report ADMIN. 62 - 86 be received; and
2. That the rental of the Holding Cells in the amount of $2,010.00 annually
from July 1st 1986 be approved; and
3. That a by-law authorizing the Mayor and Clerk to execute a Lease Agreement
with Her Majesty the Queen as represented by the Minister of Government
Services for the Province of Ontario for the rental of the Holding Cells
in the premises located at 132 Church Street, Bowmanville, be recommended to
Council for passage.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
Following the departure of the Durham Regional Police from the Police and Fire Building,
their interest in the use of the Holding Cells was at an end. Government Services,
knowing that the Regional Police would be vacating the premises as of June 30th 1986,
entered into discussions with respect to the leasing of the cells space with
Mr. Johnston and subsequently with the writer. The annual rental of $2,010.00
($167.50 per month) for 335 square feet of space seems reasonable.
The Ministry also proposes to combine the lease for holding cell space with the lease
for the second floor court rooms when that lease is renewed in December 1987.

ADMIN. 62 - 86 -2-
Rental payments for the holding cells would commence from July 1st 1986.
The annual rental fee is reasonable for the holding cells and staff would recommend
that the by-law authorizing execution of the lease be recommended to Council
for passage.
Respectfully submitted,
