(TING: REPORT TO THE COUNCIL MEETING OF MARCH 4 1986
DATE: MARCH 24 1986
REPOT #: ADMIN. 24 - 86 FILE #:
SUBJECT:
ADVERTISEMENT IN THE FINANCIAL POST
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that CounciL
1 . ! Receive Administrator's report ADMIN. 24 - 86;
2. Authorize the expenditure of approximately $2200 for the purchase
a one quarter pEige vertical advertisement in the Financial Post in
conjunction with the Region of Durham tabloid;
3. Authorize staff to forward appropriate information for inclusion
I in the Regional advertisement as requested in Mr. Patrick Olive's letter;
4. Advise the Region of Durham and the Financial Post of Council 's actions.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
Recently the attached correspondence was received with respect to the
possibility of advertising in the Financial Post. Staff are still working to
develop an industrial development strategy prior to the end of May of this year.
However, in discussing this matter with the Region of Durham Commissioner of
j Economic Development, Mr. Patrick Olive, it was mutually agreed that this is
Ian important effort on the part of the Region and that the Town should
participate in conjunction with the Region. This advertising effort will be
one of the major advertising opportunities at the National and
international level for the Town in conjunction with the Region.
As such, staff are bringing forward a report at this point in time so that
ADMIN. 24 - 86 -2-
sufficient lead time will be provided to prepare an appropriate advertisement
for the May 17th 1986 edition of the Financial Post.
It should be noted that staff in preparing a strategy are
looking for ways and means of improving communications and co-operation
between the Region of Durham Economic Development Department and the Town in
promoting the benefits of industrial development throughout the Town.
Participatinc in a joint advertising effort of this nature would be consistent
with the co-operative approach to industrial development.
In addition to the Town's direct advertisement the Town of Newcastle will be
incorporated into the advertisements of the Region.
Respectfully submitted,
David S. ohnston, M.C.I .P. ,
Chief Administrative Officer
