SUBJECT: 1986 Remuneration for members of Town of Newcastle Council ,
the Newcastle Community Services Planning Board, Committee
of Adjustment and Property Standards Committee
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that Council :
1 . Receive Administrator's report ADMIN. 2 - 86;
2. Adopt the attached by-law to reflect salary adjustments
for the Mayor and Members of Council ;
3. Grant, effective January 1st 1986, a four percent adjustment on
per diems to all members serving on the Newcastle Community
Services Planning Board, Committee of Adjustment and the
Property Standards Committee; and further that the per diems be
adjusted a further one per cent effective July 1st 1986.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
In May of 1985 the previous Council established a remuneration level
for members of Council , the Newcastle Community Services Planning
Board, Committee of Adjustment and the Property Standards Committee.
The salary adjustment was for the year 1985. At the time the previous
Council did not establish any salary adjustment for the
new Council . As such, it is appropriate for Council to consider this
matter and establish appropriate remuneration rates for 1986. In this
connection staff have drafted a by-law which is reflective of the salary
adjustments granted to regular full-time staff for both non-union and

union positions. It is also being recommended that the per diems
of officials serving on the Newcastle Community Services Planning
Board, Committee of Adjustment and Property Standards Committee be
similarly adjusted.

THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE
BY-LAW 86-
being a by-law to provide for an annual
allowance to the Mayor and Members of
Council
Pursuant to the Municipal Act, R.S.O. 1980, Chapter 302, Section
238(1), the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle
hereby enacts as follows:
1. THAT effective January 1st 1986, the Mayor be paid an annual
allowance of twenty-threethousand, eight hundred and forty nine
dollars ($23,849); and that effective July 15 1986 the Mayor
be paid an annual allowance of twenty four thousand and eighty-
seven dollars ($24,087);
2. THAT effective January 1st 1986, Members of Council be paid an
annual allowance of ten thousand two hundred and twenty-one
dollars ($10,221); and that effective July 1, 1986, Members of
Council be paid ten thousand three hundred and eighty-four
dollars ($10,384);
3. THAT such allowance shall be paid bi-weekly and in the event of
the death of a Member, or upon his/her ceasing to be a Member for
any reason before the expiration of his/her term of office, the
amount shall be in proportion to the period of his/her service
during such term.
4. THAT By-law 85-91 of the Town of Newcastle is hereby repealed.
