REPORT WD-5-93 PAGE 2
2.0 BACKGROUND
2 . 1 Through the development process, various road widenings and
0 .3 metre reserve blocks have been acquired by the Town of
Newcastle. As development conditions are met for the adjacent
lands, the widenings and reserve blocks require dedication as
'public highways for public use' , by by-law.
2 .2 The preparation of the dedication by-laws is very time
consuming and consequently, a number of road widenings and
reserve blocks requiring dedication have now accumulated.
Accordingly, these lands should now be dedicated by passing
the detailed by-law attached. (Attachment No. 1)
2 . 3 To satisfy the requirements of the Municipal Act, a hearing
on the proposed by-law is to be published for four (4)
consecutive weeks in a local newspaper.
2 . 4 Following such hearing, it is appropriate for Council to pass
the by-law dedicating the outstanding road widening and
reserve blocks as public highways for public use.
Respectfully submitted, Recommended for presentation
to the Committee,
