S[JB.ECT: HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBILITY AT ORONO ODDFELLOWS HALL
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report WD-37-91 be received;
2 . THAT the management of the Orono Oddfellows Hall be advised that
the Town of Newcastle is willing to reconstruct the sidewalk in
front of the Orono Oddfellows Hall and other associated works to
provide an access for the handicapped into the Hall provided that
the costs, estimated to be $2,500, are paid by the Oddfellows; and
3 . THAT a copy of Report WD-37-91 be forwarded to the management of
the Orono Oddfellows Hall.

2.0 BACKGROUND
2 . 1 At a regular meeting held on June 11, 1990, Council passed
Resolution #C-420-90:
"THAT Town staff contact the management of the Orono
Oddfellows Hall with respect to handicapped
accessibility and report back to the General Purpose
and Administration Committee. "
3.0 REVIEW AND COMMENT
3 . 1 Access for the handicapped into Orono Oddfellows Hall is difficult
due to a concrete stoop which is raised six inches (0. 15 m) above
the level of the sidewalk (Attachment No. l) .
3 .2 To provide easier access for the handicapped, sidewalk
reconstruction is necessary. The existing sidewalk must be removed
and replaced with sidewalk which is level with the concrete stoop.
New ramped sidewalk will be required to the north and south to
match the existing sidewalk. In addition, the boulevard will be
asphalted to match the curb and sidewalk.
3 .3 The estimated cost of these works is $2,500.
