THAT Report WD-22-91 be received for information. --------------------------------------------------------------- REPORT 1.0 ATTACHMENTS No. l: Key Map No.2 : Correspondence dated September 19, 1990, from Town of Newcastle to the Region of Durham No. 3 : Correspondence dated October 1, 1990, from the Region of Durham to the Town of Newcastle . . .2 i REPORT NO. : WD-22-91 PAGE 2 2.0 BACKGROUND 2 . 1 At a regular meeting held September 10, 1990, Council passed Resolution #C-611-90: "THAT the Director of Public Works be instructed to investigate and report back to the General Purpose and Administration Committee on methods of improving the stop situation at the intersection of Enfield Road and the Seventh Concession. " 3.0 REVIEW AND COMMENT 3 . 1 As this is a Regional intersection, a representative of the Region of Durham and the Town of Newcastle met on site, September 25, to review the intersection (Attachment No. l) and recent motor vehicle accidents . 3 .2 A letter expressing Council's concerns was forwarded to Mr. W. A. Twelvetrees, P. Eng. , Commissioner of Works, Region of Durham, for review and response (Attachment No.2) . Michelle Hendry, Traffic Analyst, advised the Town in a letter dated October 1, 1990 (Attachment No. 3) , that the Region would make improvements to this intersection by installing larger Stop signs, Stop Ahead signs and trimming tree branches . 3 . 3 An inspection by Town of Newcastle staff verified that improvements by the Region of Durham have been completed. 4.0 CONCLUSIONS 4 . 1 From the above, it is concluded that the Region of Durham has responded to Council's concerns . . . . 3 REPORT NO. : WD-22-91 PAGE 3 Respectfully submitted, Recommended for presentation to the Committee, ------------------------ -- --- - ------------------ Walter A. Commissioner of Works Dear Sir: Please quote our ref: RE: Regional Intersection Concession Road 7/Regional Road No. 34 Former Twp. of Darlington TRA-RR34-SIN We have reviewed the traffic control at the above noted intersection and in light of recent accidents and a field check indicating potential for future collisions, we will be upgrading the existing signage. This will include increasing the size of the existing 'Stop' signs and installing 'Stop Ahead' signs in both directions . Further to the above, tree branches to the south, on the west side, will be trimmed to ensure optimum sight distance .is achieved. We hope this will serve to better advise vehicular traffic of the stop condition and avoid future collisions . Thank you for bringing this to our attention. "- Yours truly h' , /ps M.
