REPORT NO. : WD-27-92 PAGE 2
"THAT the foregoing Resolution #GPA-82-92 be amended
by adding thereto:
'and that the Director of Public
Works investigate and report on ways
of improving vehicular safety in the

3.0 REVIEW AND COMMENT
3 . 1 Reconstruction of King Street in 1993
The proposed 1992 Capital Budget and Four Year Forecast
provides for the reconstruction of King Street from Frank
Street to 300 m east of Mearns Avenue in 1993 . The project
also includes the reconstruction of Mearns Avenue from King
Street east to Orchard Park Drive.
3.2 Left Turn Lane
Plans for the reconstruction of King Street include:
* A 1.5 m (4 . 9 feet) concrete sidewalk on both sides
of King Street;
* Two (2) 2 . 35 m ( 11.5 feet) lanes for each of
eastbound and westbound traffic; and
* One ( 1) 3 .25 m ( 10.7 feet) left turn lane.
The details of the proposed reconstruction are illustrated on
Attachment Nos . 1 (a) , 1 (b) , 1 (c) and 1 (d) .
3 . 3 Traffic Signals at the King Street/Mearns Avenue Intersection
Future development in the area north of King Street, east and
west of Mearns Avenue will result in significant increases in
traffic volumes on King Street and turning volumes on Mearns

Avenue at King Street. For this reason, although warrants
are not met for the installation of traffic signals, the duct
work and other work necessary for the provision of traffic
signals in the future will be included in the reconstruction.
3.4 Examination of Existing Lane Marking
The existing lane markings in the vicinity of Galbraith Court
and King Street were examined for their effectiveness now
that Galbraith Court has been constructed and additional
traffic is coming from and to the subdivision to the north.
The existing lane markings are illustrated on Attachment No.
2 (a) and the proposed lane markings are illustrated on
Attachment No. 2 (b) . Revisions to these lane markings in
accordance with Attachment No. 2 (b) will be completed in the
spring of 1992 .
Respectfully submitted, Recommended for presentation
to the Committee,
