THAT Report WD-27-92 be received for information. ---------------------------------------------------------------- REPORT 1.0 ATTACHMENTS No. 1: Lane markings on King Street East in the vicinity of Galbraith Court After Reconstruction No. 2 : Lane Markings on King Street East in the vicinity of Mearns Avenue After Reconstruction No. 3: Typical Section King Street East after Reconstruction No. 4 : Typical Section Mearns Avenue after Reconstruction No. 5: Existing Lane Markings No. 6 : Proposed Lane Markings 2.0 BACKGROUND 2 . 1 At a meeting held on Monday, January 27, 1992, Council approved Resolution #GPA-83-92 : /2 n REPORT NO. : WD-27-92 PAGE 2 "THAT the foregoing Resolution #GPA-82-92 be amended by adding thereto: 'and that the Director of Public Works investigate and report on ways of improving vehicular safety in the area of Simpson Avenue easterly to Mearns Avenue. "' 3.0 REVIEW AND COMMENT 3 . 1 Reconstruction of King Street in 1993 The proposed 1992 Capital Budget and Four Year Forecast provides for the reconstruction of King Street from Frank Street to 300 m east of Mearns Avenue in 1993 . The project also includes the reconstruction of Mearns Avenue from King Street east to Orchard Park Drive. 3.2 Left Turn Lane Plans for the reconstruction of King Street include: * A 1.5 m (4 . 9 feet) concrete sidewalk on both sides of King Street; * Two (2) 2 . 35 m ( 11.5 feet) lanes for each of eastbound and westbound traffic; and * One ( 1) 3 .25 m ( 10.7 feet) left turn lane. The details of the proposed reconstruction are illustrated on Attachment Nos . 1 (a) , 1 (b) , 1 (c) and 1 (d) . 3 . 3 Traffic Signals at the King Street/Mearns Avenue Intersection Future development in the area north of King Street, east and west of Mearns Avenue will result in significant increases in traffic volumes on King Street and turning volumes on Mearns . . . /3 I 014 REPORT NO. : WD-27-92 PAGE 3 Avenue at King Street. For this reason, although warrants are not met for the installation of traffic signals, the duct work and other work necessary for the provision of traffic signals in the future will be included in the reconstruction. 3.4 Examination of Existing Lane Marking The existing lane markings in the vicinity of Galbraith Court and King Street were examined for their effectiveness now that Galbraith Court has been constructed and additional traffic is coming from and to the subdivision to the north. The existing lane markings are illustrated on Attachment No. 2 (a) and the proposed lane markings are illustrated on Attachment No. 2 (b) . Revisions to these lane markings in accordance with Attachment No. 2 (b) will be completed in the spring of 1992 . Respectfully submitted, Recommended for presentation to the Committee, alter A.
