REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE
MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 13, 1982.
REPORT NO. WD-67-82.
SUBJECT: GLEN-WARREN PRODUCTIONS.
VILLAGE OF HAMPTON AND AREA.
AUGUST 22 - 26, 1982.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended:
1 . That this report be received, and;
2. That Council approve the donation of $300. 00. , made by
Glen-Warren Productions in respect of the taping of an
episode of "The Littlest Hobo", in the Village of Hampton
and Area, to the Terry Fox Marathom of Hope, and;
3. That Ms. Onya Furey, Locations Manager for Hobo Productions,
be sent a letter of appreciation for the co-operation and
understanding of the Company in complying with Town by-laws,
and the respect and consideration shown towards the residents
of Hampton and area during the week of filming.
REPORT:
On August 19, 1982, Ms. Onya Furey, Locations Manager for Hobo
Productions, the company responsible for the television series
"The Littlest Hobo" , visited the Public Works Department office
requesting advice and assistance in a proposal to tape an episode
in the Hampton Area. The segment to be filmed involved various 4)

somewhat extraordinary circumstances, e.g. an overturned (chlorine)
tanker truck, the rescue of a baby from a deserted home, and the
emergency evacuation of people from the scene; consequently there
had to be some considerable co-ordination of effort between the
Town, Regional Police and, most of all , the local residents.
The production Company was most anxious that there be no conflict
with Town by-lawsand policies, and there was much discussions as
to the best locations for the filming requirements. Ultimately,
the scene involving the overturned tanker truck was filmed on
Old Scugog Road, at the Fourth Concession of Darlington; the home
of Mr. & Mrs. Buckley, Perry Avenue, Hampton, was used for the
rescue of the baby, and Hampton Junior Public School for the
evacuation.
In accordance with Town requirements, the Public Works Department
issued and approved Road Occupancy Permits in respect of the use
of Old Scugog Road, and secured a Certificate of Insurance to cover
the duration of the filming. The Locations Manager was responsible
for notifying all other involved agencies, and for enlisting the
co-operation and participation of the residents of the area.
During the four days of the production Company's stay in this area,
no complaints were received regarding any disruption in respect of
the filming, except for one resident whose boulevard had been
marred by a truck. This matter was resolved, to the resident's
satisfaction, by the film unit.
It is usual , apparently, when Glen-Warren Productions use an area
or facility, for the Company to make a donation to same. On Thursday,
August 26, 1982, Ms. Furey presented the Public Works Department
with a cheque in the amount of $300. 00 (Three Hundred Dollars) on
behalf of the film unit. Staff feels it would be appropriate that
the money be donated to the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope, on behalf
of the residents of the Town of Newcastle.
Respe tfully submitted,
® R.G. Dup s, P. Eng. ,
Director of Public Works.
