REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE
MEETING OF JULY 12, 1982.
REPORT NO. WD-F3-82.
SUBJECT: CONTRACT FOR CRUSHED GRAVEL.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended:
1. That Report WD-53-82 be received, and;
2. That Staff be authorized to advertise tenders
for the crushing and delivery of granular mat-
erials to the Town of Newcastle, in accordance
with the 1982 Road Maintenance Budget, and;
3. That the supply of pit run gravel for crushing
be obtained from the Kovacs Pit and the Reid Pit,
at the unit prices quoted, as well as from the
Town-owned Pit in Part Lot 16, Concession 2,
former Township of Clarke.
BACKGROUND AND REPORT:
Each year the Public Works Department calls tenders for the crushing
and delivery of 3/4" gravel , to be spread on Town roads, and stock-
piled in the various Works Yards, as required. The gravel for
crushing is obtained from local gravel pits, as close as possible
to the construction site, in an attempt to minimize haulage costs.
The rate for pit run gravel , at the face, is fifty cents per tonne,
from the pit owned by G.S. Kovacs (Darlington) and forty cents per
tonne from the pit owned by Mr. W. Reid (Orono).
