REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE
MEETING OF MARCH 22, 1982.
REPORT NO. WD-24-82.
SUBJECT: ROAD INSPECTION TOUR - 1982.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended:
1 . That this report be received, and;
2. That the 1982 Road Inspection Tour be arranged for
Thursday, April 15th, and Friday, April 16th, 1982,
and that all Members of Council , and the Press, be
invited to attend, and;
3. That Councillors communicate any specific areas of
concern to the Public Works Department in order that
they may be included in the Road Inspection Tour.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
Each year a Road Inspection Tour is arranged, by the Public
Works Department, for the Mayor and Members of Council , in
order that various areas of concern may be viewed and assessed,
and also to give Councillors the opportunity to familiarize
themselves with construction proposals and maintenance needs.

It is usual for the Tour to be taken in the early spring of
each year, when any potential problems are most evident.
The Tour usually takes two days, one to cover the Village of
Newcastle, Village of Orono and Clarke Township generally, and

the second for Darlington Township and the Town of Bowmanville.
A small bus is rented from Charterways, and each day's tour
commences at 9:00 a.m. , from the Police and Fire Building on
Church Street, Bowmanville.
In order that an itinerary can be prepared, Councillors are
requested to communicate any area of particular interest and
concern to the Public Works Department not later than one week
in advance of the proposed dates of the Tour.
Members of the Press are usually invited to attend the above
Tour.
