WD-5-82. SUBJECT: COUCH & ARMSTRONG WELLS, ORONO. RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended that: 1. This report be received for information. BACKGROUND AND COMMENT: As a result of Town of Newcastle operations , two private wells in Orono suffered a decrease in the supply of water to properties owned by Mr. & Mrs. Armstrong of Somerville Drive, and Mr. Couch, who lives adjacent to the Town Pit located in Part Lot 16, Con- cession 2, Clarke. By Resolutions Nos. C-273-81 and C-274-81 , Council directed that Staff arrange to provide water to the Armstrong and Couch wells, at no cost to the parties concerned. i REPORT: i Pursuant to the abovementioned resolutions, the Armstrong resid- ence has been connected to the Municipal Water Supply, at a cost to the Town of Newcastle of $1 ,680. 78. , with the necessary work being undertaken by the Regional Municipality of Durham (for the connection, from the property line, to the watermain) and Harvey Partner Limited (connection from property line to residence, and associated plumbing involved) . l � iV`" WD-5-82 _ 2 _ Mr: Couch is aware of Council Resolutions Nos. C-273-81 and C-274-81 and have informed Staff that they have not required temporary water this year due to their water conservation methods and a fairly wet spring and summer during 1981 . Mr. Couch did hire Mr. D. Lott to clean and rejuvenate his well , at a cost of $150. 00; this work involved the removal of some three feet of mud and silt accumulation, resulting in a gain in the well storage capacity of one hundred (100) gallons. The 1981 estimate of costs for the deepening of Mr. Couch's well was calculated as follows: To deepen by 10 ft. $ To deepen by 20 ft. $ Set up Charge 100 Set up charge 100 Deepen - 10 ft. 350 Deepen - 20 ft. 700 Plumbing and Deep Pumbling and Deep Well Pump 700 Well Pump 700 Total :$ 1 ,150 Total : $ 1 ,500 It has been arranged that Mr. Couch will contact the Public Works Department in the event that the supply of water from the well fluctuates and/or decreases.
