SUBJECT: District Municipal Engineer for the Ontario
Ministry of Transportation & Communications.
BACKGROUND:
Since 1974 the Town of Newcastle has been within the jurisdiction
of District No. 6. , of the Ministry of Transportation & Communic-
ations, for which Mr. R.E. Dawson has been District Municipal
Engineer.
REPORT:
The attached correspondence advises that Mr. Dawson has accepted
a special assignment with the Ministry and will be succeeded as
District Municipal Engineer by Mr. W.W. Osborn.
During the past years, Mr. Dawson has been most helpful and
co-operative in all matters, and we have been grateful for his
assistance

Dear Mr. McIlroy:
You have now received official notification that I have undertaken
special duties with the Ministry,, which means that my contact with
the Municipalities will now have to come to a halt. However, there
may be times when I will have to draw on your experience and expertise
which I am sure will always be available to me.
I would be grateful if you would please express to your members of
council and staff, with whom I have had to deal over the past twelve s.
years, my thanks and appreciation for their understanding and co-
operation with the difficulties, problems, and a .sometimes bending
of the rules necessary to accomplish our objectives due to a rapid
growth in this area,, and the changes occasioned by Regionalization.
It has been an interesting time, and a pleasure working with all of
