Subject: Naming of Roads & Streets within the Town of Newcastle. Recommendation: THAT Draft No. 3. , of the map detailing proposed names for roads and streets within the Town of Newcastle be (approved and the appropriate by-law be prepared and submitted\\ to Council. Report: In 1978, the Ministry of Transportation & Communications asked that the Town provide up-to-date mapping of the Municipality in order that standardized signing could be implemented. Since 1978, maps depicting various names for all roads and streets have been displayed in public places, on two separate occasions, and input was received from individuals and agencies interested in the project. In many instances, historical references were sought and incorporated and it is felt that the resulting map now contains as much information as possible and will be in- valuable for location/identification use by both visitors to the area as well as local service agencies. It is becoming more and more important that there be a single means of identifying any particular roads or property, and this map is intended to dispel much of the confusion which has been experienced since 1974, with the onset of Regional Government and the amalgamation of various small communities into one area Municipality. l r't V f, 0 M E M O R A N D U M TO: J.M.
