Subject: Parking on Mill Street, Village of Orono. (C-256-81) Recommendation: THAT the existing NO PARKING restrictions on Mill Street, from Regional Road # 17 to King's Highway # 35/115, be retained, in accordance with Schedule 'A' of By-Law 79-1. Report: On February 23, 1981, Council received a petition from Mr. Kenneth Jackson of Orono, requesting that parking be permitted on Mill Street in the Village of Orono, from Dixon Street to Main Street, on the east side. As a result, Resolution # C-256-81 was passed, as follows: "THAT the petition &eceived 4nom Mtc. Kenneth Jackson ugatcding ajvtanging the parking tce- ZtAiesiows in OAOno be tce4mAed to the D,vicectok o4 Pubt ic Wo&k6 6atc a kepoA t to the Public Wo&k.6 Committee". Mill Street, from Dixon Street to Main Street (Regional Road 17) is approximately twenty (20) feet wide and some five hundred and twenty-five (525) feet in length. On the section to which the petition addresses itself there are seven (7) houses, an Anglican Church, and various driveways on the east side, and on the west side, from the area of Dixon Street, there are five (5) houses without driveways. In addition, at approximately the half-way point from Dixon Street to Main Street, on the east side, there is a fire hydrant. It should be noted that, if consideration was given to the lifting of parking restrictions, there would only be room to accommodate six vehicles (due to the existing driveways, the fire hydrant, etc.) , the roadway width would be reduced to one driving lane and there is every possibility that vehicles would park on the sidewalk, which is some four feet in width. It is the opinion of this Department that an amendment to By-Law 79-1 in respect of Mill Street, would create unnecessary hazards to pedestrian and vehicular traffic, and the existing NO PARKING should be retained. `f „4r * i I x I I ,r I Wokik I
