Director's Report to Public Works Committee of March 17, 1981.
Item: WD-38-81
Date: March 5, 1981.
Subject: Parking on Queen Street, Bowmanville.
Recommendation:
THAT the action taken in Resolution # W-302-80 and approved by
Council by Resolution # C-80-1392 be upheld and that, to ensure
an efficient flow of traffic, and due to the width limitations,
the NO PARKING signs on the north side of Queen Street, Bowman-
i
ville not be removed.
Report:
The request for the removal of NO PARKING signs from the north
side of Queen Street, Bowmanville, was the subject of a report to
Public Works Committee in October, 1981, resulting in Resolution
# W-302-80 being recommended to Council, as follows:
"THAT the recommendation in RepoAt WD-163-80
be endowed and, to ensure the efficient 6tow
o6 tca44ic and due to the width Zimitations,
the Petition ti.on 4ot the nemovat a4 NO PARKING
,Signz on the north tide o4 Queen StAeet,
Bowmanvi, ee, be denied".
The foregoing was adopted by Council on November 3, 1980, by
Resolution # C-80-1392.
On November 17, 1980, however, a delegation appeared before Council
and requested that the matter be reconsidered; as a result a further
report to the Public Works Committee was requested.
Queen Street, from Ontario Street to Liberty Street, has a pavement
width of approximately twenty (20) feet, with a should of two (2)
to six (6) feet wide. In areas where there are open ditches, the
shoulders are particularly narrow and would provide inadequate
width for parking purposes. In addition there are numerous drive-
ways, both single and double, which impose limitations on any
proposed parking.

WD-38-81 (2)
Report, continued. . .
In most areas on the north .side of Queen Street it would be very
difficult to park a vehicle without protruding onto either the
sidewalk or the pavement itself.
In view of the foregoing, it is considered that, in order to
maintain an efficient and safe flow of vehicle and pedestrian
traffic, the NO PARKING restrictions must remain in place.

To Whom It May concern
T live on Queen Street in Bowmanville along with many other
Residents . The "No Parking" signs where posted last year
when King Street was being worked on , T do not think it
is fair to leave these No Parking signs standing because
if we park our cars in front on our houses. they would be
oh the road allowance , not on the road. Parking hhe way
it is now even a few minutes often end up with a five
dollar ticket on our windshield . The south side of the
street does not have signs but there is absolutely no
place to park a car.
The following Residents of Queen Street area would
greatly appreciate the no parking signs taken down on '
the Borth side of the street .
