Subject: Naming of Roads & Streets,
Town of Newcastle.
Recommendation:
THAT the map detailing proposed names for roads and streets within
the Town of Newcastle be approved, and the appropriate by-law be
prepared and submitted to Council.
Report:
In accordance with Council Resolution # C-367-81, Draft No. 3 of
the map detailing proposed names for roads and streets within the
Town of Newcastle was on public display for thirty days, and input
was received from area residents who provided names of historical
or traditional significance.
Attached is a list of revisions to road names, together with the
source of suggestions for same. The map details the final update,
using 'red line revisions' to indicate any alterations from the
submission to Public Works Committee on March 17, 1981 (Report No.
WD-44-81) .

In some areas roads were named in accordance with an existing
Plan of Subdivision, and in all instances consideration was given
to the historical significance of road names in common use, but
not previously formally adopted.
The origin of this proposal was a request from the Ministry of
Transportation & Communications for definitive identification of
all crossing roadways; the ultimate intention is to produce maps
of the Town of Newcastle, in varying sizes from wall maps, such
as the one presented now, which would be invaluable to Town Staff
and to service and utility agencies (Police, Ambulance, Ontario
Hydro, etc.) and intermediate-size (approximately 2ft. x 3ft. ,
similar to present maps in common use and distribution, to a
smaller (82" x 11") edition which could be inserted into the
Town of Newcastle promotional/information brochure.
