Director's Report to Public Works Committee .
ITEM: WD-89-80.

SUBJECT: Reconstruction of Highway No. 2.
Oshawa Townline to Regional Road 57.
BACKGROUND:
The Public Works Committee, at the Meeting of November 27, 1979,
adopted Report # 224, by Resolution # 14-272-79, as follows:
"THAT the recommendation. in Report 224
be endorsed and whereas the construction
of sidewalks relative to Ministry project
No. 110-72-00 are to be borne by the Town
of Newcastle, it is recommended that pro-
vision be made for the location of same
and, further, that the sidewalks be con-
sidered in the future in conjunction with
development in which costs, thereby, would
be defrayed by others. "
The foregoing was adopted by Council on December 3, 1977. A copy of
Report 224 is attached .
REPORT:
Staff have met with Ministry representatives, and their Consultants ,
regarding the proposed reconstruction; it was learned that the Ministry
are currently preparing a detailed design study and, upon completion of
this, they will open a Public Information Centre, presumably in the
Fall of 1980.
Initial reconstruction is in the Ministry Five Year Forecast and may be
scheduled for 1982-1983, but the Ministry has expressed concerns that
it may be diffici.ilt to acquire land for sidewalks which would not be
constructed until. a later date.
CONCLUSION:
The Committee may wish to give further consideration to this matter
in view of the foregoing information.
