OFFICIAL OPENING AND NEW LOGO
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee
recommend to Council the following:

1.0 OFFICIAL OPENING
1.1 The Community Services Department is pleased to advise Council the fitness center
expansion at the Courtice Community Complex was completed in December 2001.
Accordingly, the Official Opening of the new Fitness Training Centre will be held at the
Courtice Community Complex on Sunday January 20, 2002 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
1.2 The event will be open to all members of the public as well as invited guests and
dignitaries. Advertisements announcing the Official Opening will be placed with the local
media in early January and formal invitations will be mailed at the same time.
1.3 The Official Opening Ceremony will include the traditional activities associated with a
event of this nature including Ribbon Cutting, and; presentation of ceremonial keys to the
newly expanded building.
1.4 The Master of Ceremonies for this event will be Ms. Teresa Kazuba, media personality of
CHEX Television.
1.5 Other events of interest to the general public will include demonstrations of new
equipment and special interest aerobics demonstrations by staff such as
. Boxercize
. Power Yoga
. Spinning
1.6 Tours of the new expansion will also be available throughout the afternoon.
1.7 Other activities include Health and Nutrition Information Centers, prize draws, Clara the
Clown; and, complimentary refreshments.
1.8 During the membership drive prior to the opening, all annual member applications were
entered into a draw for a complimentary annual membership. This prize will be awarded
at the Official Opening.
1.9 All members of the public who attend the Official Opening will be eligible for a draw to
receive a complimentary sports bag complete with gift certificates, weight training gloves,
fitness related foods and refreshments. In addition, everyone in attendance at the official
opening will receive a sport water bottle as a souvenir of the event.

3.0 MARKETING I PROMOTION
3.1 A logo for the new Fitness Training Facility has been developed by Staff in conjunction
with the Tourism and Communication Department and will be used in marketing and
promotion of the facility.
3.2 The logo depicts the architectural features of the Courtice Community Complex by
incorporating the design of the main entrance canopy, as well as design features of the
building as well as incorporating the Municipal Logo - Leading the Way.
