Director's Report to Public Works Committee.
Ttem: WD-57-80.
Date: April 23, 1980.
Subject: Part of Lot 1, Concession 5, Clarke.
Background:
The attached correspondence, which was referred by the Clerk for
a report and recommendation to Committee, requests that the sub-
ject road allowance be maintained on a year-round basis.
The current status of the road allowance in question is that of
'Forced Road' and, as such, it is not maintained during the
winter months; this status and situation was in existence at
the time that the former Township of Clarke became part of the
Town of Newcastle in 1974.
Report :
It is the Policy of the Town: "not to assume, for maintenance
purposes, any additional roads for maintenance purposes, save
and except those which are constructed by others, at no cost to
the Town, and have been constructed in accordance with Town
Standards."
The writer of the correspondence also expressed concerns relative
to drainage, and also attached is the reply of March 26, 1980,
which deals with this matter.
Recommendation:
THAT Mr. Desjardins be informed of Town Policy relative to road
maintenance, whereas improvements are required prior to obtaining
same on a year-round basis.
